The mission of Rotary International, a worldwide association of Rotary clubs, is to provide service to others, to promote high ethical standards, and to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
We would like to contribute to the education of children at the 2000 pupil primary school in Thondwe Malawi to promote reading and learning. The library which was built in 2017 with the support of Rotary clubs in Scotland is desperately short of books that support the teaching curriculum. The aim would be to purchase textbooks in English and Chichewa, the local language to achieve better learning outcomes and to develop good reading habits. The modest school development fund made possible by parent donations would not be sufficient to meet the demand of this expanding school.
Affordable locally published textbooks are available in Malawi and we hope this appeal will allow for the provision of sufficient books to raise education outcomes in the school. Children love going to school in Thondwe so let’s see if we can give them the brightest possible future.
The Rotary Club of South Salem currently meets each Tuesday at noon on Zoom. We are an open club and invite non-Rotarians and those who are curious about Rotary to drop in and attend any of our in-person meetings. We also do socials and service projects which are all listed on our website and facebook page.
